some slides from where we start!
It`s a 85 m2 flat on the first floor. The building is 4 floor high, on Katzinelson street in Givataym. Originally it had 2 balconies, one for the living room and one for the kitchen, but they were closed in the `80`s, like they did for all the buildings in Israel.
It has living room-kitchen, 2 rooms and bathroom, and the balcony.

step 02
and today we started! Schmulik (Ohad`s uncle) and Bono also helped us! we demolished walls and i softly cleaning the concrete columns that we want to keep as it is.
Ohad and Schmulik started in the livingroom
this will be the bedroom
demolishing the kitchen cupboards
all equipped!
this is one of the treasures! the old closet! i just took off all the veneer and the whole structure is wood. Amazing accessories added inside, like trouser hanger, small draws, sliding shelves...
the building isn`t in a good condition ...
all walls are down!
taking off the plaster, the wood framework
has it`s cast on the concrete!
we will order a container to take all this out
the toilet and the bathroom will become one space
Bono olyan volt, mint a kiskakas a szemetdombjan,
csak kicsit riadtan meg :)
from here we continue....
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE PLAN
so this is a really difficult issue, since we both are architects and we all the time came with new ideas...specially Ohad can`t stop! so it seam like it`s a never ending story, so here are the first drawings.
detailed plan of the kitchen with all the equipment
plan 01
bathroom with bathtub and glass wall facing the living room
bathroom only with shower
and the sections....
flooring plan_we would like exposed concrete floor,
but it might be too expensive to make it, so we might
find some kind of tile /concrete look-like/
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
we have some 3D-s too /it`s only quick archicad rendering..../

step 03.
we have new plan :) ! / the 4th / / i will let you see it soon...just few more lines/ and we made more decisions too!
we will break all the walls and maybe we will take also all the tiles and put concrete paving! so step by step we are getting to a full renovations- we started with the idea of changing fully only the bath and the kitchen. The only thing that we want to keep is the old closet, but because we break the walls we need to take it piece by piece and than rebuild it. So next week before the language course i will go to number all the pieces so we can built it up the same way again!
Today Ohad broke some more wall /kitchen and the small room-bathroom/ so this is how it looks now!
Adan came over at the end to help some
In the background you can see the kitchen and the small room ex-teritory, Ohad even break the concrete lowered ceiling...half of it laying on the matrace Geri or Zsofi slept few month agao :)
This will be the balcony, we keep the old sewing machine as table, at the end is the door to the bedroom.
future kitchen and guest room
future bathroom and poured concrete column / this will take me an other day /
the half concrete slab, it`s more than 120 kg!
last steps before the icecream
this is what i did today.... 30 bags!
we are going to order a container next week so we can take all the bags and leftover away, so we can start with the construction!
this column is almost done!

step 04. / step 05. / step 06
We continued demolishing and started cleaning. Ohad had a very busy week finding container, workers to take the debris in to the container and constructor / we need someone to make the pluming, the floor and plaster / everything else we will try to make. We want to do insurance also for the construction and for this we need to give them the list of the workers we are going to work with.
After 2 days of cycling at 7 at the morning to find empty parking lot to the container Ohad won! and now the container is full! 2 worker in 4 hour took all the 390 bags of construction debris down! 9 tone!
we decided to chnage everything at the end...floor, windows....all! so we are still demolishing!
more bags
follow the line of the walls on the ceiling to recognize the flat!
and i found myself at the beach...
a normal israeli floor section: 22 cm reinforced concrete slab+5 cm send+3 cm light concrete+paving
NO COMMENT!

it`s the 3rd weekend that i`m cleaning the concrete surface
Bono waiting to get the price offer from the constructor
still cleaning the concrete columns
the workers were socked how clean we work- so after they took all the bags down they even clean the staircase- so we were socked!
we wanted to take the send also out, but now it seams that our new floor will be on this send too!

summery:
work hours: 92 / each of us
used utilities: hammer, spachtel, screw, paper mask, textile gloves
cost:
350.- electricity accessories
750.- container
600.- 2 worker for 4 hour
next steps:
1. changing container- we need one more!
2. calling workers again to take the marbles and all the left overs down
3. `iron-man` will come to take all the iron pieces from the house- and old man who is selling it later- good for us, good for him :)
4. starting with electricity and pluming

6. final details with the constructor
7. to order the windows
8. to order the tiles
9. to order parquet
10. to choose bath sanitary
and to put the new and seams to be final plan HERE!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
07.01.2011.
we found a beautiful closet in the flat that i wanted to keep for the kitchen, but we can't make it! There is no way to put the floor under it, so we have no choice, Ohad must break it!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
13.01.2011.
the final plan in real....we built the first row to get a real feeling of what we planed.

Bono waiting for dinner....he is getting very tired after a hard day of work
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
14.01.2011.
which tile to choose....
because of weight problems we can't have concrete floor, we must choose!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
21.01.2011.
step 07.
bricks arriving!
we ordered Ytong, i was convinced that from this material will be the easiest to built. I didn't wanted gyps-board walls because i can't trust the sound insulation of it.
all the bricks were carried up to the flat by Ohad and David.
meanwhile a man saw our construction from the road and he offered to take all the old iron structures for free...everybody was very happy!
my father arrived...hard work will start now :)
every night we are dreaming that the slab will just land to the ground floor because the weight it's not spread in the right way!_my father is sleeping good ;)
how to make a wall straight:
working till 10 pm.
and the result:
light slide between the two bath room
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
26.01.2011.
step 08.
my father came to help us, he started to built the walls, later did the plaster /ceiling was very difficult because we decided not to scratch the old plaster and paint so he had to manage to create a smooth surface from 4 different ceiling surface!/_all the work he have done took him 48 days
living room space looking forward the kitchen
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
11.02.2011.
this will be our own?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
18.02.2011.
step 10.
electricity work starts!
after a long day!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
18.02.2011.
sometimes we do short walk :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
24.02.2011.
step 11.
and the plumber started to work too!
and the concrete blocks arrived for our "loft" feeling
Ohad is building the wall day by day...after work he has an other 4-5 hours, so when he arrives home from the office he is taking the bike and going to do a new row! He must cut the pieces ahead at the weekends because at this time it's not aloud to make noise.
--------------------------------------------------
13.03.2011.
step 12.
most of the chances this will be the tile:
--------------------------------------------------
15.03.2011.
step 13.
we need to make a main electricity box-this is the one....here should enter all the wire from all the plugs and utilities in the flat, and we will have the tv, phone and internet supplies. It looks like we are going to open some kind of factory!
electric microclimate to our house! feng shui?
--------------------------------------------------
23.03.2011.
step 14.
rusty metal beam arrived!
--------------------------------------------------
25.03.2011.
step 15.
I'm still scratching the old paint from the wood windows we would like to keep. I got a special machine from my brother, which reminds me to a hairdryer only with my warmer air.... it doesn't really help...takes down only the first layer, all the others i need to scratch with glass paper. One window frame takes like day / 6-8 hours/
--------------------------------------------------
26.03.2011.
step 15.
in the last month there
were no big changes....brick by brick! but after all the walls are ready now and the plaster will be ready soon as well. Meanwhile we are going to choose materials.
we decided about the parquet to the rooms /light grayish brown/
Ohad finishing the brick wall which wont get plaster or paint only an overlay against dust
guest room / american plaster-smoothener :) is ready
also in the kitchen area
space ready for flooring!
living room
this is not the beach_here they put the tiles immediately on a wet mortar layer on the send
bathroom before the tiles
bedroom facing the window
facing our future closet
preparing the opening of the window
finishing the ceiling
this will be our shower soon_its one space with the bedroom
last row!
rusty metal beam
big window nr1 facing main road
big window nr2 facing small house
view...only one i like :) but only looking up ;)
csendelet
material arriving for the flooring
first step that made us feel close to end...we got the marbles for the openings
I`m almost done with scretching the windows
the new entrance door
our future shower
Ohad doing plaster :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
07.04.2011.
step 16.
finished gyps-board work in the shower /we had to do this for lightening the wall on the plastic pipes from the toilets/
this is going to be our shower, we would like to make concrete floor at least here. We don't know yet how, hope to find someone to give us some help!
we made a vent for the bath
Ohad doesn't like the concrete columns, he says they are to much broken and with to many fillings, makes the flat look like we didn't finish it. So we are trying to find a plaster that looks like concrete surface. Till now this is the best we found, but i'm trying to keep this step for the last, maybe he will change his mind! / My mum saw it on skype and she was shocked that i want to keep it like this!
DEAR ARCHITECT FRIENDS! please vote what would you do!/
and the floor arrived...
finally a send-less spot!
and we also started with the tilings of the bath and shower...
after the floor was ready we decided we need a layer of the american smoothing plaster also in the big space, because the plaster gave a too rough surface and the ceiling was wavy.
starting with the american smoothing plaster in the living room area.
These are the 4 steps if you want to do it professional :):
we / Ohad/ are going to put 2 layers of gypsum boards on the wall of the door to make the frame be in the same surface.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
20.04.2011.
step 17.
we spent the holiday in Yogneam! Hag Sameach!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
24.04.2011.
step 18.
I can start painting!first the guest room:
-you must scratch the american plaster with a glass paper to get a smooth surface...after that you look like this:
-you start with the corners, first the ceiling-wall /small brush/. as i experienced it's enough once
-than painting first layer to the ceiling
-than a special glue kind paint for the walls
-2nd layer to the ceiling
-1st layer to the wall
-3rd layer to the ceiling
-2nd layer to the walls
-waiting to dry
-3rd layer to the wall
ready!
corners
walls
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
26.04.2011.
step 19.
Ikea here we come!
we bought most of the kitchen items and the accessories, a draw to the wardrobe, the sink and the tape and some accessories to the bath.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
01.05.2011.
step 20.
goodbye for the old flat. We painted and cleaned the flat today than we took shower to Bono and than we took shower too....and now we say goodbye! sad but excited!
this flat was made by Ohad too! /06. 2009./
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
01.05.2011.
step 21.
WE MOVED!
there are no windows yet in the big openings.... so i have a new architectural expression: URBAN CAMPING...ok maybe someone used it already.... :) it felt exactly like that!
first night
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
02.05.2011.
step 22.
work plan for today:
- the plumber arrived at 8 and started to fix the shower systems and tapes, toilets--------we will be able to take shower today :)
-the window mechanic will finish with all our new windows
-the fridge, the washing-machine and the oven should arrive today
pictures coming later when everything is done! :)
some plans meanwhile:
bath:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
03.05.2011.
step 23.
we have windows!
living space
guest room
bed room
who says that the vizslas are full with energy? can't take him out from the bed!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
04.05.2011.
step 24.
we have parquet!
guest room
to see the colours!
bed room-shower / we still don't exactly know how to make the concrete floor/
NEXT STEPS:
weekend:
-to finish the smoothing plaster and the paint in the bed room-shower
- to order the counter and the sink to the kitchen
-to paint the bed room-shower
-to built the ikea kitchen furniture
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
30.10.2011.
step ....
long time passed since my last update, well we had to work on other project but now we are back and we are getting close to finish some main details!
we found a great carpenter manufacture from where we order all our wood pieces for our self-made furniture pieces. By now we finished the library / office area, Ohad is right now at the place to bring the material for the kitchen storage closet, the wardrobe door and we decided to built a small storage above the fridge too. We are planning to built the items today and during this week. What we have left from this DIY work is only the bed frame /since we got today the new mattress :) 180x190! / and the item under the bedroom window!
Meanwhile i finished the FINAL plan of the flat:
pictures will follow soon! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
19.11.2011.
we were working late a lot on the carpenter works we have still left
we built the kitchen storage closet / kamara / :
all you can see in the back should fit in!
at the left we want to storage all the cleaning accessories, on the right we fixed the grey sliding baskets from ikea, so we can storage potatoes and onions at the bottom, in the upper baskets goes all extra food items (pasta, rice, etc.....)
we also finished the closet at the bedroom:
from outside we wanted to see it like we don`t see it..... inside we have an other layer of shelves so we doubled the storage area of the closet....more pictures soon- when the sun will shine here again so i can take nice, bright pictures :)
So what left to do to finish our bedroom is:
-closet under the window which is our shower's closet too
-shower area / we need to do the exposed concrete surface- we are still not brave enough to take this step!/
-basin
-mirror
-frame for the bed / we got our new mattress 180x190 ye! /
-pictures on the wall
-and all the small details what makes the atmosphere warm!
AND this is our new flatmate:
i found it, as you can see on the street, called Ohad, he carried it home and than we cleaned it for 4 hours whit all the chemicals we had in the house...
and so this is the result:
so now we need to order the mattress for the sitting and the back. Since the wood is in a really good condition we will keep it like it is! In the beginning we thought to have leather for the mattresses but probably we can`t afford that, we are still searching for better prices....if we can`t find we would like to have some light colour textile, basically grayish with maybe some soft impact of a petrol colour.
well this is where we started :)
and lately i found some inspiration pictures here.
kjerstislykke
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
28.11.2011.
our second mirror arrived today!
